My dear friends and I recently had the privilege of touring the caves in Batu, Malaysia.
No sooner did we walk through the entrance to the first cave, this thought came to my mind – How many people will never enter the cave because of fear?
Correspondingly, how many people will never live their dreams because of fear?
Starting your dream is exactly like walking into a cave. You have no idea what’s on the other side or what happens after your enter an unknown space. Many people assume it’s going to be dark, gloomy, terrifying and frightening.
Others are primed for the adventure. “Bring it on,” say the brave ones.
As we continued down the path of the Batu Caves I was absolutely blown away by the beauty and majesty of what we encountered. Who would have known that through such a small opening would be a cornucopia of beauty and abundance?
Parts of the cave opened up so the sky was actually visible. We could see the soft white clouds floating by. We witnessed birds flying over the sundrenched openings singing their own special tunes. Sunlight was bouncing off the incredible rock formations and creating a scene that only Mother Nature could choreograph.
It’s too bad the whole world could not see this. The only people in the entire world who could witness this monumental miracle are the ones who were brave enough to enter the cave in the first place.
It’s the same way with your dreams. The only way you will appreciate the beauty of what you are capable of is to take the first step – enter the unknown. Trust me when I tell you – your fears will sneak in from time to time – and I believe they are supposed to.
Fear keeps you safe…for a moment. If you let fear linger it can freeze you in a mental prison that is sometimes inescapable. I believe it was Victor Frankl who said, “You can’t escape from a prison unless you know you are in one.”
If you are afraid – congratulations for being human!
Now…let’s move to SUPER HUMAN. “How do I do that Gerry?” you may ask. That’s easy. Do what the other humans refuse to do – take a little risk and see what you are capable of.
I know this for sure – whatever you are up against, whatever you encounter – there is always a way out – if you look for it. If you believe in yourself you will soon find out that YOU + GOD can handle ANYTHING that comes up.
Even if you feel surrounded, even if you have a sense of overwhelm, you simply have to take a breath, picture the perfect outcome and proceed, one step at a time. I have personally experienced conquering fears and overwhelm many times in my thirty years as a speaker. We have no idea how strong we are – until we have to be.
You have a reservoir of potential that holds the key to breaking your old habit patterns and stimulating new thoughts of success and possibility. Take a chance. Take the first step. Walk through the opening to see the immensity of the goodness, the feeling of joy, the elation of approaching your potential and the flood of abundance that is possible.
Small openings lead to big opportunities.
“But what’s on the other side Gerry?”
EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER WANTED!
I’ll see you on the other side of your mountain!
