WHY ME?
That is probably the most frequently asked question – from people who consistently fail to win. Those two words – five little letters – have been the cause of so much continued pain and frustration.
Here’s what winners ask/say: WHY ME!
“Yeah, but Gerry… they’re the same words!”
Good catch. Here’s the difference: the complainers, whiners and losers put the emphasis on the word ME… WHY ME? And they end it with a question mark. “?”
The winners, the never-give-up people, put the emphasis on the word WHY.
WHY ME! And they end the two-word phrase with an exclamation point. “!”
The losers complain and moan.
The winners use it as a sign to GO DEEPER inside themselves. The winners will take what is deemed to be a negative event and take the word – WHY – and use it as a badge of honour. Here is HOW you GO DEEPER.
AFTER THE QUESTION “WHY?” – ASK FIVE MORE QUESTIONS…
WHY – was I chosen to go through this?
WHAT – skills, talents and abilities can I use help me overcome this trial?
HOW – can I use this event to help others?
WHEN – has this happened before and how did I handle it then?
WHERE – can I use the lesson form this event to help me grow?
WHO – can I help with the insights I have gained through this SITUATION?
Let’s keep going for a bit…
While I was touring the ruins in Capernaum, Israel, our tour guide explained to us that throughout history, ancient civilizations did not gather the ruins of a city and take them to a local dump. They just built another city ON TOP of the existing ruins.
Isn’t that a lot like our lives? We have all had failures. The most successful people simply BUILD ON TOP of the ‘ruins’ of their past. They know what NOT to do and they don’t do it again.
People who don’t win keep making the same mistakes. They don’t learn from their errors and blunders. They insist that their way will work – all evidence to the contrary.
It’s been said that RE-ENGINEERING is simply starting all over again using what you now know to be true – mistakes and all.
What else can we question? EVERYTHING!
Question your beliefs – be they business, political, spiritual or philosophical. When you question everything you’ll get one of two possibilities:
ONE – You discover that what you once believed may not be true and you are set free.
TWO – You realize that you were right all along and you know have more certainty about your original beliefs.
If you want to change your lot in life – ASK BETTER QUESTIONS!
Here’s a quick question I have for you – When will I see you in the winners circle?
I’m betting it’s very soon!!!
Gerry
