While exploring a tourist site in Malaysia recently I came upon a modern day assembly line. I say ‘modern day’ only because it happened recently. Truthfully, the assembly line was antiquated and it had no machines or technology.
I have the honour of circling the globe about five to six times per year.
That’s a lot of frequent flyer miles. It’s a lot of packing and unpacking too!
People often ask two questions of me about my travel:
There seem to be a lot of famous ‘steps’ in the world. Everyone who visits Rome has to climb the Spanish Steps. When I was at the Batu Caves in Malaysia there were brick-like steps, lots of them. Then there are the infamous steps up the mountain in Mach Pichu, Peru.
“Mom, can I get a dog?”
“Sure honey…but we’re going to have to convince your father.”
“How do we do that?”
“We’ll have to show him WHY you want it, NEED it, HAVE to HAVE IT! – and – You have to appeal to dad’s way of thinking and his interests!”
Many years ago a musician named Terry Jacks had a big hit that included the words: “We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun…”
One of the founders of the personal development movement, Earl Nightingale, had this amazing insight:

One of the best ways to learn to be victorious is to CELEBRATE the victories you have already achieved!
“But Gerry, you don’t understand – I feel like the lamp post down at the pier – life, like the seagulls on the lamp post – has crapped all over me!”
One thing is sure in life…we usually hit what we are aiming for. Even if we don’t hit it – we come close.
So here’s the challenge I see with most entrepreneurs – they aim too low!
When we were kids we collected hockey cards or baseball cards and we spent hours saying, “Got ‘em, Got ‘em, Need ‘em, Trade ‘em!” We were fascinated to invest all that time looking at the same cards over and over again.
So I’m in Seattle at the moment…but I am supposed to be in Portland!
The weather, the air traffic control people and Air Canada decided not to get along for a few hours and my plans were totally and completely changed!
