Charlotte Canion understands that sometimes parenting your parents can be an overwhelming task. As someone who has a firsthand knowledge and experience on parenting their parents, Charlotte knows this too well and might even be considered as an expert on this topic. Charlotte took care of her dad with Parkinson’s disease, a mom with an Alzheimer’s disease and a father-in-law with Dementia, all at the same time!
Thus, in a speaking event held last February at the Concerned Citizen Center in Jacksboro, Texas, published author Charlotte Canion shared to those in attendance the important lessons and learning on “Parenting Your Parents.” She shared three important topics on how to:
- Empower yourself by putting on the armor of knowledge
- Find humor in every situation
- Discover the power of laughter and see how it will help you
The event was a huge success for Charlotte as she was able to pre-sold copies of her book to almost fifty percent (50%) who attended the talk.
Charlotte Canion wrote “You Have to Laugh to Keep from Crying: How to Parent Your Parents” to empower everyone who are parenting a parent.
According to Charlotte, “Everyone alive today has parents or loved ones who will need them to be their caregiver eventually; I share stories that will help them to remember to laugh through the journey. Because laughter is our best medicine and when the journey is over, they will have good memories. I share parenting tips on how I kept my parents close to reality as they slipped into the abyss of the disease. In my book, I teach you how to laugh during and after your journey of parenting your parents.”
Charlotte Canion is a multifaceted miracle: mother, sister, mentor, friend and a grandmother. Like her parents, Charlotte combines the most useful ideas from many different areas to help her excel. Her mom delivered strong Christian values from her own family background, and Charlotte’s father was a strong man with great resilience. Values and perseverance has served Charlotte well throughout her life.
You are truly a remarkable woman and an inspiration to all those who are parenting their parents! Cheers, Charlotte!
