“Think in new ways to value individuality from the inside out”– Dr. Virginia LeBlanc
Dr. Virginia LeBlanc author of the upcoming book, “Love the Skin YOU’RE In: How to Conquer Life through Divergent Thinking” opened up and offered divergent approach on changing a company’s culture for the better and creating shareholder value through human capital by focusing on current and prospective employees’ holistic development in her article published by HR Future for its June edition.
HR Future is a South Africa-based global business-to-business magazine delivering strategic, business-driven human capital content to Executives, HR Directors, HR Managers and Line Managers in South Africa, Africa and countries around the world. In her article, Dr. LeBlanc accentuates the importance of creating a holistic approach (mind, body and spirit) of developing human capital as a necessity for optimal productivity of the workforce.
She notably pointed the importance of work-life balance in a company which according to her is an elusive endeavor as in reality there’s no such thing exists. According to her, there are only shifts in time, energy, focus and scope of priority. She also added, “Seek right proportions that will allow you to manage and steady yourself in the ring of life.”
In the same article, Dr. LeBlanc has also given emphasis on how keeping the right talent in a workforce is detrimental in growing a business. Citing the analogy of the “Captain & the Crew” as an example, Dr. LeBlanc probe on the importance of Leadership as the ‘captain’ and the conscious mind of a leader while the Human Capital are the ‘crew’ and the subconscious mind- they are inextricably tied together to complete a mission.
Furthermore, to LeBlanc, perhaps the biggest and boldest move that a company can do to create a better company culture is to adapt quickly to change. She added, “Just because you have always done something in a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the right way. Progress is not the thwarter of legacy, but it’s the rewarder; don’t fear it.”
