Here is a little secret that successful people know… You don’t have to be perfect to win!!!
Let’s start with a few clichés… and a story we’ve heard a gazillion times.
Successful sports teams don’t win every game. In baseball, basketball and hockey you only have to win four games out of seven to be considered the WORLD CHAMPION. That’s only a .571 win percentage.
Thomas Edison did not complain when he failed at inventing the light bulb 10,000 times (or 1,000 times – depending on who’s telling the story). Edison was reported to have said, “Inventing the light bulb was obviously a 10,000 step process.” Each way that did not work was a step towards the ultimate goal – inventing a way for humans to bring light to the darkness – the light bulb! What’s your light bulb?
Every time we fail is a success! What? Always? Yes…but only if you learn something from the failure. If you keep failing by doing the same old things over and over again – then you will never win – simply because you are not learning anything.
Notice the best baseball players. If they get a hit three out of ten times they are considered Super Stars. The BEST of the BEST are the ones who get hits in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings. They take the information that they learn from the first six innings (from the pitchers and the defense) and apply their insights with intense focus and concentration when the game is on the line.
They may strike out and get zero hits in the early part of the game but they know that the game is still on. They try, they fail, they learn. They try again, they fail again, they learn a little more and eventually… they WIN.
What about your business? Do you keep trying? GOOD!
Do you keep trying BUT you keep doing it the same old way? NOT GOOD.
What if you were to try a new marketing technique? What if you did something different than your competition? What if you were supremely focused on being the solution to your client’s problem?
Here is your assignment for this week – What one thing can you do different? – Something you have NEVER done before. Commit to trying the new thing and record your results as follows:
When I said “XYZ” they responded with “ABC”
When I tried “QRST” they immediately did “LMNOP”
Compare your answers for each client and see what the results are.
Learn and try again.
As with the above sports analogies – the game is on the line – it’s the late innings and your team needs you.
Your team is your staff, your family and your clients.
Step up to the plate and take a swing.
No matter the result, keep swinging.
You WILL get a hit.
YOU ARE A WINNER!
