Micah Barnes, author and motivational speaker, shares his inspiring story in an article by HEAL (Health, Education and Laughter) Magazine, an inspiring publication whose goal is to provide guide onto a positive path of life on a daily basis.
Micah grew up in Gary, Indiana, a city once known for its violence and dismal economic climate. He saw firsthand the effects of drugs, violence, and apathy in the community most especially, the youth. He re-lived how his job as a video editor in a busy newsroom in Jacksonville allowed him to see enough senseless deaths, murders, and violence involving the youth. These events and a conversation with a photographer still reverberated and echoed deep in his heart. That photographer once said to him, “Micah, somebody’s gotta do something about these murders.”
Thus, Micah Barnes, with the optimism of injecting hope into his community wrote, Who Stole My Future? A Guide to Building Positive, Productive, and Empowered Youth in Our Community to provide parents and community leaders with ways to immerse teens in a positive environment, to communicate more effectively with them, to encourage them to be productive, and to empower them to be assets to themselves and their community. The book also provides teens with proper thinking and methods to help them stay a step ahead of their peers, as they become responsible young adults.
According to Micah, “The ear is mightier than the gun”, and he is intently listening to that voice to fight, redeem and catch the thief that are stealing our youth’s future.
