Anna Dowe

Anna Dowe has firsthand experience in helping others conquer challenges and guiding them toward solutions. Growing up, she was separated from both of her parents for the majority of her childhood, but through those difficult circumstances, Anna learned the life skills necessary to survive in the trenches, no matter what life throws at her.

As a teenager, she was reunited with her family and moved to a new country, thrust into a new environment, where she experienced a new language and a life with parents she barely knew. When she stepped into this family she had longed for throughout her entire young life, she quickly learned the dysfunction and pain of living with alcohol abuse. Continuously surrounded by those who leaned on her for advice, support, and wisdom, Anna was naturally drawn towards the field of psychology.

Today, Anna Dowe is an international speaker, coach, guide, and mentor, with many satisfied clients. In the past, she has worked with newcomers and segments of the troubled population, including abused women, addicts, those at risk of suicide, and individuals and families requiring coaching and counseling. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (BA Psychology) from York University and is also certified in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Time Line Therapy (TLT), and Hypnotherapy (C.HT).

After earning her degree at York University, Anna traveled the world and settled in Asia for some time. During her travels, she met John, her ex-husband, and they chose to settle down in Canada in 2005 to build a home and family together. John, a veteran of the Canadian military, was diagnosed with and suffered from PTSD for the better part of their ten-year marriage. Due to his illness, Anna and their two young sons also encountered secondary traumatization. Anna experienced the hardships of being a spouse in such a relationship, having to make tough decisions for her and their children. Bent Not Broken is her story, a message of healing and hope and a gift to other spouses caught in the same situation.

Anna is a giver, a compassionate beacon of light for those in need of guidance, and her own example of living a life filled with power, passion, and purpose has made her the person she is today. Her unique personal story is inarguably her greatest credential, a testament to the fact that a person who is knocked around by life can still come out victorious. Anna now uses her hard-earned wisdom to help others transform their own stories from tales of tragedy to tales of triumph.

“I met Anna Dowe during the most tumultuous time of my life. PTSD had caused my life to spiral out of control. I was juggling a high stress career, an alcoholic father, and the breakdown of my 17-year marriage. Everything was chaotic, everything.

To the outside world my life was perfection: Perfect career, husband, house, and vacations. The world also witnessed my perfect permanent smile—a front that was hiding a plethora of disorder. My health was failing. I was doing too much of everything—drinking, smoking, spending. Anything to numb the pain, anything to feel some resemblance of comfort.

My husband and I separated. Afterwards, my dad died. I was struggling with all the anxiety, flight or fight, and depression that PTSD could cause. PTSD is all consuming. It steals the very essence of your soul, and leaves you isolated, sad, and angry.

I truly believe everything happens for a reason—here comes Anna Dowe. I met Anna through a mutual friend. Instantly, Anna read the signs; she seemed genuinely concerned and quickly learned that she understood the depths of every emotion I was feeling. She had lived it. She got it. She survived it. Anna guided me to my survival, she supported, counselled, and genuinely cared for my wellbeing. Bent Not Broken is a must have tool that everyone can utilize to map out the path to living with PTSD. This book is a gift—a blessing of survival.

Anna, thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world.”
