Are your summer sales slow? You might wonder what happened. Well, summer happened. During this time of the year, most companies usually suffer from decreasing sales due to customers taking their vacations and time-off all throughout the summer season.
So as a business owner, how do you cope with this slack?
Well, BCB authors, Peggy Weekes, Kim Speed, and Theresa Barnabei, who are also experts in their own fields and industries, had the tips in boosting summer sales in a Carol Roth’s blog Business Unplugged TM.
Carol Roth’s blog Business Unplugged TM, features Carol Roth’s tough love on business and entrepreneurship, as well as insights from Carol’s community of contributors.
Topping the list of best summer tips shared on Carol Roth’s blog came from Peggy Weekes. Peggy is a speaker, consultant and author of the upcoming book, “A Mix of Two Worlds: Nature’s Best from the East and the West for Optimum Health.”
According to Peggy, “Summer is the time for many outdoor events and the more you attend, the better it is. It allows you to socialize, make connections and provides you with numerous opportunities to acquire leads. People are usually more relaxed, approachable and open to talking about themselves. This is where you become an active listener who may be able to suggest ways in which their needs can be met. This will open the door for follow-up conversations and who knows, maybe a life-long client relationship.”
Another great advice comes from Kim Speed, a branding expert, founder and creative director of Purple Moon Creative, and author of the recently published book “Branding on a Shoestring: How to Re-Create Your Small Business Identity and Increase Sales Results in 83 Days or Less”.
For Kim Speed, business owners need to enjoy the summer season and still make money. Kim said, “Summer is when we all want to spend a little less time in the office and more time socializing and being outdoors. We may feel a bit casual and relaxed, but it doesn’t put the work world to a halt. Use this relaxed time to connect with your clients over a lunch on the patio, a game of golf or even over an ice cream and walk. Find out how’s their business going and what the last quarter plans are. This is the key information you need. And the best part, none of this will feel sales-y or pushy.”
Meanwhile, Theresa Barnabei’s tried and tested tips for boosting summer sales also made it to the top of the list. Theresa who owns several businesses such as Course Creators, LLC (a state sanctioned real estate school in Arizona) and TB Consults, LLC (a development, coaching and training company), and author of two published books, “Multiply Your Business: 10 New Marketing Strategies for the Real Estate Industry” (co-authored with Gerry Robert) and “The Flight of Your Life: How To Get From Where You Are To Where You Want To Be”, said that in order to achieve summer success, you need to answer your phone!
According to Barnabei, “Answer your phone! Yep, it’s that simple. You see, if a prospect is taking care of their business, inquiring about your product and are more likely to buy than not, they want you to be available, too! If you don’t answer your phone when they call, it is too easy for them to assume that you are at the beach! They will call the next professional on the list. However, when you answer your phone, most are surprised to hear a live voice! It is a great way to launch a business relationship.”
