Kim Speed, an experienced branding expert, a graphic designer, speaker, workshop facilitator and author of the recently published book, “Branding on a Shoestring: How to Re-Create Your Small Business Identity and Increase Sales Results in 83 Days or Less” shared the importance of brand personality in a SheSavvy article.

Brand personality, according to Investopedia, “… a set of human characteristics that are attributed to a brand name. A brand personality is something to which the consumer can relate; an effective brand increases its brand equity by having a consistent set of traits that a specific consumer segment enjoys.”
Kim Speed, founder and creative director of Purple Moon Creative a Brand and Marketing Boutique, knows this well, and thus, shared to entrepreneurs some tips and bits of advice on the most proficient method to give your brand a personality.
- Understand your brand perception– this refers to how your ideal client would think about your brand and rave about it.
- Play with some words– list down all the traits and characteristics you wanted your brand to be known for. If you have a team, brainstorm, conceptualize and list down all the common attributes.
- Hone it to the top five– keep your top words or phrases. Pick the best words that depict your brand right now and what you aspire to be in the next six months. It should be authentic and achievable.
- Define your core value– these maybe the same as your personal values, or that of your company. It is imperative that you own them and believe them wholeheartedly.
According to Kim, “Think of your brand as a person that will interact with the clients.”
As it is Kim’s passion to help business owners find their clients that they will love to work with and turn them into loyal fans, Kim wrote ‘Branding on a Shoestring’ to educat and teach her clients that getting brand clarity and focus will build a strong business and will increase their profits.
