Meena Chettiar, a dynamic, articulate, multi-faceted technical speaker and author, hopes to leave a legacy as a caring human being and a global citizen. Meena, born in the temple city of Madurai in southern India, has always been a free-spirited, optimistic, curious type, someone who respects equality and fair treatment for every citizen of the world, no matter where they come from.
After earning her first degree in Applied Chemistry, she bravely left India and acquired two additional master’s degrees in Canada and the United States. Meena is now an accomplished Biomedical Engineer who works for a multi-billion dollar medical device company in Minnesota, and she also works part time as a university professor, teaching Medical Technology Quality. She is an avid volunteer and instructor for the American Society for Quality (ASQ), offering professional certification classes. Meena has a very open heart and soul and a magnetic ability to connect with people of all creeds and colors. She and her husband are world travelers, reaching out to people during annual vacations.
She is a global volunteer who loves to stretch her days and help out as a Rotarian, as an educator, and more than all, as a volunteer for the fast-growing Art of living global organization focused on the growth of a peace-loving, spiritual society.
Meena’s passion to elevate human lives and cherish the growth of her fellow citizens in any country is the foundation of her first book, which shares several success stories of immigrants, including her own from her years in India, Canada, and the U.S., IMMIGRATION SUCCESS is a must-read by a budding author and resilient humanitarian. Proceeds from the purchase of the book will be donated to her philanthropic cause of helping women reach the pinnacle of success in their lives through education.
IMMIGRATION SUCCESS is indispensable for adventurous, resilient people seeking greener pastures elsewhere, to settle down and flourish in another country. Such an opportunity can seem mind-boggling and overwhelming at first, due to the fear of the unknown culture, language, loneliness and separation, career transitions, weather and climate change, and political insecurity. However, through heart-touching stories of tears and laughter, the author recounts growing up as middle child in a middle-class South Indian family, reaping the benefits of immigrating to Canada after her arranged marriage and now flourishing in the U.S.
Having spent about two decades years each in India, Canada, and the U.S., she acquired a master’s degree in each of the three countries and navigated to family and career success. Anyone can beat the odds with the power of an open mind and the courage of a resilient heart to give themselves the best start in any country.
For a free-spirited girl growing up in a middle-class family in India, it was not easy to be considered a nobody when at least a 95 percent was not achieved in math, science, and English. In the culture of the 1960s, girls were expected to marry educated, well-to-do young men, and there was no place for a little girl who, at age 11, insisted on penning a letter to the U.S. Embassy to inquire about immigration to the United States. She left everyone behind to join a husband and in-laws she hardly knew, immigrating to Canada, the land of milk and honey in the seventies. At a university there, she proved herself and established herself well in that new family and country, a newlywed coping and adapting to a different way of life.
Each of us is born with unique talents that blossom more with exposure to challenges. Necessity is the mother of invention, and as George Bernard Shaw said, “The people who get on in this world are those who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them.” The world of immigration can be a bit frightening, but it is possible to successfully navigate it and cherish every bit of your journey. Learn, grow, and contribute as an immigrant in any society after overcoming adversities, and you will later reminisce and laugh about these moments, sharing your fond memories with your grandkids years later.
The U.S., with a population ten-fold higher than that of Canada, offered even more opportunities, so the family found the courage to embark on another immigration journey. They lived in rented basement for a few months before finding suitable jobs, but they bounced back and reestablished their lives, with new friends, educations, and jobs. The trials and tribulations that lead to love and laughter and the never-ending ups and downs ultimately reward us with remarkable experiences. If you are an open-minded person who appreciates truly living, loving, and learning, you will discover that immigrating to any country is a fun roller-coaster ride of eternal growth and contribution as a global citizen in your commitment to make this world a better place, wherever you are.
Spot opportunities for growth and success, no matter where you come from and where life takes you. IMMIGRATION SUCCESS will transform each and every reader into global citizens brimming with optimism, joy, gratitude, and a well-balanced life! The author's goal is to light up the path for immigrants in any country and help them reach the pinnacle of success in their chosen fields.
Translate every challenge in a new country into positivity.
