Born and raised in Malaysia, Winnie Chin had no idea what she really wanted to do for a career, and had no real notion of what her “passion” was. She worked in several different industries and was living paycheck to paycheck for much of her adult life. She was tired of being tired of. In her pursuit to living her best life, she failed in several ventures. But her incredible resilience and persistence to finding a better way to live a fulfilled life kept her going. She refused to settle for less. Today, Winnie is an author and still enjoys her day role as a Senior Sales Project Coordinator with one of the world’s largest fragrance and flavor companies. She is a mother of two wonderful adult children and a cool grandmother to an adorable granddaughter.
Winnie is “obsessed” with personal development. Her ongoing, self-funded continued-education helps her identify her authentic self, purpose, and desires; it is a big part of her life. She realized that she could not help others or be a blessing to others if she didn’t feel good about herself. Her self-discovery journey brought her to Tony Robbin’s “Unleashed the Power Within” and Mastery University. Her immersion in these events helped her break through what had been the biggest stumbling blocks in her life: self-confidence and belief systems.
Everything Tony said resonated deeply with her. Winnie experienced personal transformation, which permanently shaped the standards she held for herself. The “Paradigm Shift Seminar” with Bob Proctor was a total mind opener for Winnie. Bob said: “By maintaining control over the way you think, feel and act, you cause good things to happen in your life.” This became Winnie’s guiding principle since.
Winnie loves to inspire (and be inspired) and make a difference in people’s lives. Mentoring is second nature to Winnie. When her son was labeled Learning Challenged, she was desperate for help. She felt burnt out, both physically and mentally. Learning rejuvenated her and kept her going. When her son, Kevin, graduated from college, she was compelled to share his story. Through their journey together, Winnie uncovered the simple principles of life’s success. It is her fervent hope that This Ability NOT Disability, may inspire you, motivate you and empower you to be the best that you can be in life. Her #1 belief is: no matter where you are in life today, find your passion, be an inspiration, and be the change you wish to see in this world. Always do more, be more, have more, give more, and live your life to the fullest.
This Ability, NOT Disability is about the journey of a learning-challenged son who defied the odds and overcame all adversities to realize his dreams of becoming a passionate dog behaviorist and trainer, helping people help dogs.
Life is full of surprises. When life throws a curve ball at you, you can either let it defeat you, or put out your anchor of hope and rise above all challenges. Winnie shows you how she discovered her son’s passion and what she did to help him get to where he wanted to be. You will uncover a mother’s unconditional love and the special bond she formed with her son. There were heartbreaks, tears, laughter, and joy throughout their twenty-year journey together. The instruments of success are shared selflessly in this book in hopes to inspire readers: When opportunity knocks, always be willing to take a chance; smash through any fears and take the leap of faith into the unknown; maintain a “can do” and “do whatever it takes” mindset; and most importantly, never, ever give up. You have what it takes to live the best life your heart desires. Spread your wings and reach for the stars. Life is beautiful.
To face your fears head on and be willing to take risks—life is full of possibilities. This Ability, Not Disability is a beautiful testimony that anyone who believe and seek to push his/her boundaries, the possibility is infinite. Your life, your choice. There is no in between.
“There really is nothing in this world quite like a mother’s love. Winnie does a spectacular job in illustrating that for us through her book. This Ability, NOT Disability takes us on her son’s journey through life with a disability. Unlike most of the materials available on this delicate subject, she truthfully relays her son’s successes and victories without any of the pity or sadness. She fills these pages with a hopeful and positive attitude, and reminds us that we are all capable of anything as long as we work towards it. Through her son’s story, we learn that no obstacle is too big to stop us from achieving our dreams.”

“Life is great, and this book is a shining reminder of that. We are continually reminded that no matter how difficult life seems, it’s where we choose to put our focus that matters. Winnie captures us as we see her son bloom through her eyes; she imparts with us her own journey in striving to provide the most extraordinary version of life there is to her son.”
—Nikki Arnold, author of POSITIVITHINK™
“This is a captivating story of hope, determination, and hard work. The challenges that we experience are part of what life is all about; this book perfectly demonstrates that we, as individuals, strive to persevere no matter the challenges and hardship fate decides to throw at us.”
